Durley
History
Durley then known as Deorlage was first mentioned in 900 when Edward the Elder made a grant of land to the abbey of new minster at Winchester. However, Durley soon became the property of the bishops of Winchester as part of there manor and thereafter their history was the same as Bishops Waltham.
The church of holly cross dates back to about 1300 and has since undergone several alterations and restorations.
Description
Durley has various country lanes to escape within and has a cross section of village property with modern small estates thrown in unobvious here and their. The main road (4 miles) runs from Winchester Street through to just outside Bishops Waltham town centre, and once here travelling to Upham is only 2 miles. From wherever you call your home in Durley you will probably see fields and countryside. Two village pubs the Robin Hood and are neatly positioned and serve excellent food and wine. Durley infant school is located on the main through road as is the popular community centre. Quob riding stables is also close at hand.
