Botley

History

Situated 5 miles east of Southampton this long funnel shaped parish lies at the head of thee tidal reach of the river Hamble This pleasant old market town is called botelie in the doomsday book and was held by Edward the confessor. Botley was the home of William Cobbet from 1806-1826 and there is a memorial at mill hill. The church of All Saints was built in 1836 and contains the bells of the earlier church dated in the 13th century, the area is famous for its strawberries.

Botley is a picturesque village which homes a modern community. For entertainment there are Italian and Indian restaurants with local store and chemist. A butchers and bakery are situated within walking distance of the three local public houses. Hair dressers and beauty saloons invite you to the village centre.

Botley is situated 1.5 miles from Hedge End and 7 miles from Southampton. Bishops Waltham is only four miles away. The village centre is a thriving scene and extremely picturesque especially in the Christmas season. Three public houses along with an Indian and Italian restaurant help to make Botley an active evening venue without losing any village charm.
